Ready or not, the holiday season is upon us. This is a magical time of year full of great food, amazing shopping, and many special social events. It is also the season for giving.
The harsh reality is that many people in our communities live below the poverty line and struggle to provide their families with basic necessities. You can help. There are many ways that you can make a difference in your community during this holiday season. One of my favorite programs is the Coats For Kids initiative that helps to bundle up our community’s youth during the winter.
Coats For Kids, http://www.operationwarm.org/, is a program that collects donations and distributes warm coats across the country.
There are many ways to get involved with this organization and donations can conveniently be made online. One thing that is important to me is that 97% of donations go directly to supplying children with coats.
In my state there are nearly 110,000 children living in poverty. I hate the idea of a child going without and make a point to contribute regularly to local food banks, shelters and to Coats For Kids. Coats For Kids partners with local schools, fire departments, and charitable foundations to identify needy children and to help distribute coats.
All coats purchased by Coats For Kids are brand new and American made!
Nothing surpasses the sense of accomplishment you receive when you help others. This holiday season show your community how much you care. Whether you choose to donate money, items, or simply your time; small contributions might make a world of difference to someone in need.
How do you plan to give back this holiday season? What programs or charities are important to you? I would love to hear from you.
