beauty sleep: 3 new ways to help you sleep better this holiday season

Have you ever found yourself staring at your reflection in the morning, transfixed on the enormous bags beneath your tired eyes?  If you find yourself nodding in agreement as you read the previous sentence than you are in good company.

The holiday season is certainly a busy time of year full of both joy and stress. Along with your waistline and your pocketbook, your beauty sleep can take a toll this time of year. If you’re like me, how well you sleep directly impacts the way you look and feel the next day.

With a little help you can achieve a more restful sleep and wake up feeling rejuvenated.

1. Let Your Nose be Your Guide

Lavender has long been praised for its immense calming effect. This lovely purple herb can actually help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Try a lavender pillow mist or lavender scented lotion before bedtime. Bath and Body Works has a line of lavender products that smells divine and is often on sell this time of year.

Need a little morning pick-me-up? Try peppermint.

Using peppermint products helps awaken the senses after a night of beauty sleep. Try using a peppermint infused body scrub or sipping peppermint tea to help energize you for the day ahead.

2. Meditation

Meditation is great way to relive stress and to regain your focus.

There are countless books to help guide you in this practice, however, I personally enjoy guided mediation apps for my phone and tablet. Some meditation apps are even free and specifically designed to help you sleep.

3. Bring Your Own Pillow

Many of us travel during the holidays and end up sleeping in hotels or in our parent’s guestroom. While holiday vacations are wonderful, there’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed. This holiday season bring your favorite pillow with you on vacation and enjoy the comfort of home while on the road.
